Tue, Jul. 8th, 2008, 11:40 pm its been a while... lots of stuff happened... this is whats worth remembering in the long run:
The short version: My brother visited, brought his kids, I took Ethan to the Air and Space Musuem, with dad. and it was: so. much. fun. I started work at TIC agian this year, still doing robotics. we're 3 weeks in with 5 to go. It's ok. Less parties than last year. More pretty female grey area counselors. Went to the Folk Life Festival on the mall which was cool. Went blueberry picking which was excellent (10 lbs of blueberries! ate them all in 2 weeks!) visited my grandmother last weekend. That was ok, saw Hancock. Also ok. Played way too much dwarf fortress, which is all I'll say about that. 4th of july was...okish. also... I met this one girl... Christine

Pros: likes video games, is apparently good at FPS's, great legs, even cuter than a button, loves sun dresses!, great taste in music, funny, usually very laid back, confortable to hang out with, disarming, charming, artsy, good proportions, nerdcore enough, seems to like me A LOT, awesome dogs!, drinks just the right ammount, awesome house, apparently really smart?, is amused by my tom-foolery, cant seem to scare her off...
Cons: Smokes, creepster, kind of clingy, "goldeen-goldeen", emotionally involved, occasionally uptight, lives in Frederic, crazy republican cathloic parents, LJ-stalks me (hi).
| Anyway, I've been hanging out with her almost non-stop. I went to this mad party her friend had in arlington, the week before that I went out with them to "cafe Japon" a club in DC, and then I went to visit her farm up in Frederic. Real horrorshow like (been reading a clockwork orange... it grows on you), Its been about 80% awesome so far. I cant complain... but I'm gonna try: ( Relationship philosophising & BAW-ing cut for your (oral) pleasure )anyway, I also did some doodles:
Robo-screen test for Wall-E (which coincidentally could possibly be the best movie I've ever seen. I shed a single man tear during the scene where they were flying around the ship.) | Another dwarf fortress legendary axe my guys made a while ago. Not as good as the first, but it sounded better in writing. | Ive been working on other stuff too, and I have at least a billion ideas for doodles in my head. It's just finding the time to sit still and do them. also the motivation to do them well, Because I'm a hack. Mon, Jun. 23rd, 2008, 12:06 am A picture.
I will neither confirm nor deny that I have been playing dwarf fortress: I'm like halfway satisfied with this. I knew what I was doing, but I totally halfassed parts of the texture and unwrapping. Designed by the mayor of my second fortress 'Sally' Ralrosat. Edit[6/29/08]: 'Sally' and 80 others, of the 92 dwarves living in my fortress, starved to death. use this time to mourn them. Sat, Jun. 7th, 2008, 08:55 pm INDIA REPORT! ...finally...
So, the 2 youngest Everhart children went to India for a while. Here's how it all went down: ( Travel and India in general )( Delhi - Trip start! )( Jaipur - The Pink Ciy )( Agra - or: The 9th Circle of Hell )( Varanasi - The Holiest City on the Holiest River )( kolkata - Sleep and Errands )( So instead of anything about Calcutta, I'll tell you about the book I was reading - Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts )( Darjeeling - Nothing like the Movie )( The Journey Home )In all, it was an fun, amazing expirence that I would do agian in a heartbeat. I'm sad I didnt get to see any of south India: Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai, ect... but you gotta leave something for your next trip! Next post is a picture post! I know I wrote a freakin' book here, like someone is going to read the whole thing and take notes and ask questions...but hopefuly it's interesting to someone. If nothing else, It'll be interesting to me when I'm 80 and have alzheimer's disease. Anyway, I suggest reading it in more than one sitting.
Tue, May. 27th, 2008, 12:16 pm Compiling India Pictures....
In the mean time, enjoy this: This started out as an excuse to draw a lee-enfield rifle, but it obviously evolved beyond its origional purpose... Sat, May. 10th, 2008, 11:03 am journey into the heart of the mysterious and impenetrible... oh wait... they have internet?
so it turns out my mystical adventure into the indian subcontinent is going to be pretty transparent due to the avalibility of internet cafes. i could realisically remain in contact as i usually would. but i wont.
instead ill tell you about the internet cafe im in right now and youll hear all about my journey in a big long post when i get back.
this place makes me feel like im in some sort of cyberpunk dystopia. the computers are cobbled together with duct tape and ethernet cords. the cubicles have ociliating fans running at full speed. cables criss cross the ceiling without regard as to who can access them. there are obviously no sort of virus protection or administrator rights. i feel like if i were slightly more internet savy i could break this place (possibly the entire internet) without much effort. the walls are dirty (as are the monitors and keyboards and floor and... everything). people are shouting in hindi all around and the street is literally 10 feet in front of me through an open loading bay door. i am in the back of the store. if i lean to the right i can see a cow.
Its a pretty weird feeling being able to interact with the world via high order technology from a place that runs on cow power.
(edit: the one im in today [5/12/08] is pretty secure. totally incased CPU's and administrator rights ect... but still dirty.)
Anyway, Ill be writing a meaningful post (with pictures?) about the rest of india when in get back on the 22nd. Sun, May. 4th, 2008, 05:28 pm oh yeah, bee-tee-dub...
I'm going to India for 2 weeks...like, tomorrow. You'll probably hear about it when I get back. soooo...uhhh...whoo! Sat, May. 3rd, 2008, 02:19 am
Ive been wanting to tell people about Paul Baribeau. but every time I'm about to I realize that he's not that famous and in fact is probably only known around michigan and gainesville (he actually lives in the GNV now, and I'll see him around occasionally and go "oh hey paul baribeau!" and he'll go "...oh yeah... hey" and give me a weirded out look). anyway, because you most likley cant buy his CDs where the majority of my readers are from, and they sure as hell arent on any torrent sites, I'm providing them for you because I love both you and them. click here to get some Paul Baribeau albumsNOTE: Most of his stuff is whiny acustic broken heart sad boy ballads. but there are a few gems I cant stop listening to:
on Paul Baribeau
- I thought I could find you
- Strawberry
- Tablecloth
|
on Grand Ledge
- Ten Things - my absolute favorite
- Christmas Lights
| the rest are good too, but these are the best. lets all post some local music we like, why not?! sharsies all around! I met a girl named Rahawa from one of my classes. we seem to get on well. For some reason I felt compelled to draw this. She looks a little bit like the girl in the picture. But less crazy. like... uhh...hi rahawa. Thu, Apr. 24th, 2008, 02:00 am A word of friendly advice
Dear friends, I know you like videogames, and that new indie games really get your juices flowing. I think thats really great! I love them too! But I think you should know, Dwarf Fortress really isnt any good for you. Yes, I know its got realistic geology and realtime erosion. Yes, I know you can get to know each of your dwarves by name and learn minute details about them like their favorite foods. I even know that supposedly the AI is so advanced that it consistently gives rise to emergent AI behaviors, which make the game as interesting to watch as it is to play. but friends, dont play it. why? first of all, its all ASCII art. No images at all, but the real reason you dont need this game is that it dosent want you to be with any other games. In fact, it dosent want you to ever leave your seat. It stole 8 hours straight from me today. I barley ate. classes? pfft! But then I realized what a controlling relationship I was in. I'd just kick myself if I let it happen to anyone on my F-list, knowing I could have prevented it. Anyway... I know you might play Dwarf Fortress anyway, but please, just keep in mind what i said ok? unrelated: I went to some parties and some art shows, saw a huge fight, drank 5 bottles of wine in 7 days. 2 of which inside the student theatre on campus while watching "Rear Window". also got an A on my spanish oral exam. Too bad im probably going to do crappily in that course anyway. stayed up all night doing a final project. finished it! sold my old text books, got $100, cashed in my piggy bank, got $50. I now have more money in my wallet than in my bank account, but its ok, cause I've got 150 unexpected dollars. Also I can pay for things, like a storage unit and a rug doctor. so I take back what I said about UF not pulling good acts. They just dont pull the acts I personally cream myself over. I went to see the mythbusters speak tonight, and last tuesday I saw Diablo Cody and then a couple weeks before I saw Bob Sagat. So all in all I saw some really cool people speak this year. All for free. I shouldnt complain. Also I just saw Cinema Paradiso for the second time and it is still amazing beyond measure. Such a great love story. salvatore and elana, ah amore! anyway I'm adding it to the list of movies I could never surpass. "I choose my friends for looks and my enemies for intelligence, and you are too smart to be my friend." - Alfredo Thu, Apr. 10th, 2008, 11:58 pm hipsterjadeen!!
ULL-LELELELELELELELELEGO-GREEN!! alt: mujahascene(ster) edit: crap! i cant beleive i forgot peircings. its ok though, hes already more hipster than muslim extremist anyway. Sun, Apr. 6th, 2008, 02:57 am THE NIMBUS HAS IGNITED, BABY!
whoo! tonight it worked EXACTLY how it was supposed to! well not exactly, no numbers, but i knew everyone at both parties by their first name! WHOO. im still a little drunk! i didnt even think, it was natural! whoo, im awesome. i wish i could write a feild report, so i can remember how i did it, but damn, it was too much too fast and too drunk. parties are easier than clubs though. and i knew some people at party #2 already. i went to tally last night and totally chooded out at a club called baja's. crashed and burned. but tonight made up for it. errr. damn... ill just list a few things that worked: ( mostly for my benifit, click if you want )EDIT: a visual AID:
its funny how i sobered up as i drew this and it came out a little different from the post above... anyway, i had a good time. Tomorrow: homework like crazy. then smash brothers party at night. Thu, Apr. 3rd, 2008, 02:11 am BushidoROCK!
HI-YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!I could have done better, but its late and Im lazy. This is half Brutal Legend and half FLCL. Also inspired by Kivie-chan's rockers. Sat, Mar. 29th, 2008, 04:21 pm I forgot how much I loved Samurai Jack. I love it. love it!
so, i feel good when people i dislike are worried/in trouble, but i feel bad that i take pleasure in the misfortune of anyone. i think this is a normal reaction but at the same time, to lead an enlightened and happy life i think you cant allow yourself to savor anothers misfortunes (unless they REALLY deserve it, which none of the people i dislike really do. someone like hitler would be ok.) anyway, i stole this from lerries journal, because i thought it was awesome. http://kevin-allen-jr.livejournal.com/81240.htmlWed, Mar. 26th, 2008, 12:30 am Please vote, 1 or 2?

 | Not like I'm actually ready to date anyone(-_-), just curious what you guys think. Also: Danny, no showing/telling Bree this stuff. thx. ( Less interesting stuff: the kimya dawson concert! ^_^ )( Less interesting stuff: parties, whoo? )I also saw my mom agian this weekend for easter! She gave me a basket and everything. we all had dinner with Gabe and his family. Then after the kids went to bed, we watched "The kingdom". it was a very chill evening. Wed, Mar. 19th, 2008, 02:46 am WE LIKE IKE! WE LIKE IKE!
I brawl with Ike, but man what a fag. spring break was good, i went to: Orlando to see the Justice (amazing! hit on girls with tatoos, only Slightly struck out) show and to go to Megacon the next day (fun, followed around by some 17 year old who called herself 'pinky', annoying but cute. eventually lost her), also played halo with some near professional level players, which was a humbling expirence. Miami to hang out with Thomas and Drew and Tony and Rene and Danny and Patric. We went to bars and got a little drunk. Miami bars I went to: Churchills (great live jazz on monday nights), Tavern on sunset(chill), Foxes lounge(dark), Tavern in the grove(grimy), Mr. Moes(fun), PS114(eh). Some girl hit on ME in Mr. Moes, used comaparing skin color as an excuse to touch me and lift hers and my shirt over the tummy. she was from some carribeian nation though, so it could have been a weird cultural disconnect. then we went wake bording, which i couldnt do, but had fun drinking beers, trying and watching. i also bought "Jimmy corrigan: smartest kid in the universe" which was not as i expected it to be, and i think i have to read it agian to fully understand it. it was ok though. also played a lot of SSB. Ft. Lauderdale to see my mommy! it was really nice, i slept on my old bed from md. had a weird dream about Rebecca, since I was on THAT bed, and then got food at whole foods, went to borders and bought some real books, (including one for my nephew "I am an outrageous octopus!!") then went to see "definetly, maybe" (with my mom) which was cute and fun, just not fine cinema. Orlando agian, to see Dan Whalen, a buddy of mine from germany whose birthday was on monday, and his family. It was great, I really should visit them more often. went wake bording agian, and owned at it! had a BBQ and just chilled at their lakehouse. really chill. dan has a girlfriend now, and theyre really great together. inevitably made me think of RS, but didnt ruin the time. angeline is such a sweetheart. came home, watched bounce houses at kids karnival in the Oconnell center, got 50$, bought Brawl not 5 minutes after promising myself i wouldnt. i have no discipline. so far, no more encounters with Kayla. lame. I found this and laughed and laughed: Neil Strauss's new comic project lawlz. Tue, Mar. 4th, 2008, 02:38 am Crazy Kayla Bayla
wow. just wow. this was "that night". Sat, Feb. 23rd, 2008, 12:36 am YEAH BOI! 22! slightly closer to..."creepy old guy"
birthday: Skipped my classes (one was cancled), woke up at 2pm, messed around on my computer, didn't leave my room until 5pm. Took a shower and at 6pm I went to dinner at outback steakhouse (delicimous), then I went to see Persepolis. all of it by myself. I had a great time (more on this later, maybe).

It was really good. This is how I want to see every comic book adapted to film. I actually think the film was better than the book. the art in the book was a little amaturish. If it werent for the amazing story Im not sure it would have been published, but in movie form, thanks to a team of talented animators and storyboard artists, the art style was maintained and enhanced. It was gorgeous. Even in silouette you could easily see every motion and turn of the characters. I was afraid that the black and white and subtitles would make it artsy and boring, but it looked great and was very relatable. Additionally it stayed very true to the book and only changed subtle details. I will say that they seemed to fly through Marjane Satrapi's story at too fast a pace, but no ciritical points were missed. I hope scott pilgrim is treated in the same way when Its made into a film.

anyway, I drew this for my birthday party. It sucks but, I feel bad for the no art in the last month so I'll post it:
Edit: so it actually turns out this party was a bust. nobody i invited showed up. to early for a pool party? lazy people? no friends to begin with? i dunno. im pissed at the people i invited, cause it was supposed to be for them as much as it was for me. the whole idea of the party was like a 'lets reconnect with old friends' thing. but at the same time i got drunk and had an ok time with myself and the people who just showed up to swim. so im going to hold it aginst the people i invited, but im not going to feel too bad about it.
|

| also this (which i drew from my own imagination without stealing ideas from anyone!): but if youre curious, check out this link: ps: look who's made an appearance in the wearables market, its our old friend, The Rey!Thu, Feb. 14th, 2008, 12:03 am unnngggg!!! what the fuck!?!
http://www.kennedycenter.com/calendar/index.cfm?fuseaction=showEvent&event=XIJFN&promotionno=27941goddamn it. if one of you fuckers on my flist doesnt go to this ill kill you. schinchiro watanabe is going to be there! i dont care if youll be at katsucon. its like an hour away. damn it. i hate gainesville. this is like the 20th once in a lifetime opprotunity im missing because i live in this shitty town. if UF werent here it would be a hole in the middle of nowhere, and even UF can only draw middle tier acts. GAAAAAYYYY!
Sat, Feb. 9th, 2008, 03:58 am man...
i wish i was cool and had something to brag about...oh wait! i totally played the new smash bros! metaknight and kid icurus(pill?) rock. sonic is cool, wario blows, snake is kind of cool but kind of enhhh... lots of attacks that make things explode, and his grab is a choke hold. the rest are cool too. this one actually has a campaign mode too, with a (seriously convoluted and terribly constructed) story. as for my life, things are happening. school is getting done, girls are making trouble. its life. hanging out with those guys from the game studio more (thats where i played SSB:B tonight). networking? fun? both! maybe ill get a job and be like super thrilled with everything. if not, ill play lots of cool games with people who appreciate them on a HUGE screen in a game design studio for the next year or so till i graduate. who knows. either way is pretty good i guess. Edit: ( Gross )im gonna go blacksmithing tomorrow! wish me luck! also: some artists ive been listening to recently: Kate Nash - british panio girl. quirky songs. pretty good. bum, jumper, cheese on toast. Kimya Dawson - other half of the mouldy peaches. 50% of the juno sound track. sings really fast. usually really upbeat. Kt Tunstall - breathy crooner. i imagine her in a lounge dress, but her pic on wikipedia is decidedly rock star. apparently im never doing art ever agian. Ill have some eventually...probably... Thu, Jan. 24th, 2008, 02:27 am Query:
So Im thinking I want to sell Kamina glasses at some upcomming con (<$5 to make, sell for $15 = %300+ profit), but how silly would I look with a table full of just Kamina glasses? then I thought, "hey, I know some anime inclined crafty people" and I wondered if any of those people wanted maybe to get a table in artist alley at say the next AWA? start a sort of Con Crafters Collective?
Emily, Im looking at you specifically, but anyone else is welcome too. just let me know what you guys think. |
